I’ve been making metal sculptures for 30 years, changing styles and subject matter more or less at random. The only common denominator was searching for forms that feel alive and resonant to me. But looking over my work now I feel it does in fact cohere into a few themes reflecting longstanding preoccupations of mine. They are: natural forces that shape our world; portals that hint at entry to secret spaces; a feeling of power emanating from human or mythical figures and places; and the sheer thrill of working with steel.
